Member Mondays: Janice Hanley

We’ll be featuring a YS member on the first Monday of every month! This month, meet Janice Hanley.

How long have you been a member of Yoga Sanctuary?

I’ve been with Sara Rose since she started teaching at Northampton Yoga about 1996 or 7. I followed her all over the valley until she started Yoga Sanctuary.

What do you love about YS?

I love the fact that I can have a different class and teacher every day and that all my friends practice with me.

What’s your favorite class/who’s your favorite teacher at YS?

My favorite class is the one I’m taking in the moment. I love Lisa’s and Sebastian’s on Tuesday, Sara’s and Erin’s on Wednesday, (I have a writing workshop on Thursday) and Ellie’s on Friday.

Why did you start taking classes here?

I have been practicing yoga for over 50 years. It’s part of me.

What do you do for fun?
For fun I enjoy yoga, gardening, writing, knitting, reading and cooking. I used to enjoy traveling before the pandemic.

What’s your favorite fruit?

My favorite fruit is a peach.

What’s your favorite yoga pose?

My favorite yoga poses are twisted triangle, half moon pose and headstand.

What yoga teaching has impacted you the most?

Flow yoga has impacted me the most although my first yoga teacher really inspired my practice.

Why do you practice yoga?

Over the years I have had many accidents teaching downhill ski racing, getting thrown from a horse. If I didn’t practice yoga regularly, I wouldn’t be able to walk.
