Pyeng Threadgill is an American vocalist, composer, author, video artist and voice and movement teacher. As a vocalist/performer she creates what she calls New Porch Music based on the traditions of Black American Folk, Soul, Jazz and improvisational music. Threadgill uses these Porch Sessions to create connected conversations whereby audiences may reflect on their own life stories and identities for healing and empowerment.

Threadgill has performed internationally at festivals, from The Cognac Blues Festival (France) and San Sebastián Jazz Festival (Spain), to Montréal Jazz Festival and others. In the US she has played at Jazz mainstays such as San Francisco’s Yoshi’s, Atlanta Jazz Festival, and New York’s Blue Note.

Threadgill is a recipient of the fellowship in music composition from New York Foundation for the Arts for her album "Portholes To A Love & Other Short Stories". She currently teaches at NYU at The Clive Davis Institute in addition to having her own private practice. Threadgill lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and their dog Pony. Testimonials:

"Pyeng is a rare teacher who nurtures the whole artist. Her workshops leave me with questions to journal about, exercises that free and energize, and visualizations that move me beyond my habitual ways of thinking. I walk away feeling inspired and confident about my abilities to work on myself and my voice."

"Pyeng helped me be wonderfully aware! The exercises and workshops have been so healing and have affected (positively!) my way of thinking and feeling..."

"Working with Pyeng gave me some great tools to explore like playing with breathiness, register, dynamics and adding movement to use when singing a song so that I can be inspired and express myself genuinely."

“After my work with Pyeng I know how to sing with rest in mind versus singing with work in mind. I am so much healthier and grounded in my practice as a vocalist!”
