Kat Now
Yoga, Mindfulness, & Conscious Dance Instructor | Musician
(she/her)
Kat Now (she/her) is an educator, musician, and creative. Kat began to practice yoga and mindfulness in 1999, and her commitment to spiritual study and exploration of different practices has supported her through many different chapters and challenges of life. She completed Kripalu yoga teacher training with Monique Schubert and Cristie Newhart, and now holds over 300 hours of yoga certifications including accessible & trauma-informed teaching from Love Your Brain Yoga and the Accessible Yoga School, with additional training in restorative and yin yoga. Further certifications include training in JourneyDance, Reiki, and meditation.
Kat calls her teachings Embodied Mindfulness as she believes that song, yoga, and dance are accessible and active pathways to experience the benefits of mindfulness throughout our whole being. Kat leads Embodied Mindfulness for body/mind/spirit connection through gentle yoga, yin & restorative yoga, conscious dance, and mindful embodied singing. A classical musician by training, she sometimes infuses her physical yoga practice with live music in Sanskrit or English. Kat also offers live music and sound bath sessions to soothe the nervous system.
She strives to create classes that honor yogic traditions, and empower students to acknowledge their inner strength and agency regardless of experience level, age, ability, or identity. This goal is informed by her lived experience as a queer person with disabilities, and many years of work in the field of education advocating for policy reform to support marginalized students. Kat has extensive experience working towards inclusion and equity for trans and nonbinary people which translates to her classes as she prioritizes creating safer spaces so that all students have an opportunity to tend to their well-being. Kat believes in service-oriented engagement in social justice and spirituality, and she advises various communities on best practices for trans and nonbinary inclusion, and focuses on accessibility and nervous system regulation in her Embodied Mindfulness offerings. Kat’s path is greatly influenced by the teachings of Ram Dass and Thich Nhat Hahn.
