with Juliette Gomes and Miranda Busansky
This contact improv lab is the second in an ongoing series that continues to explore embodied and somatic movement practices through the lens of CI, endeavoring to expand our understanding of how to relate to our bodies and the bodies of others in a shared collective space. This week we will focus on how to create structures of support through mutual anchoring and tethering, exploring new patterns of moving through the listening and tuning to another's body. We will engage in exercises of finding counterbalance and explore ways of “falling together” with safety and care. The Lab will open with a continued discussion on approaches to community care within somatic and dance spaces and close with a sharing of ideas and interests for further lab material.
Skills gained in the lab will help movers continue to navigate jam spaces with a sense of their own gravity, balance, and ability to give and receive weight with awareness and care. Please reach out to inquire about BIPOC scholarships and other financial assistance.
Filling in a greatly felt gap in the western Mass Contact Improvisation (CI) community, the Queer/Femme Lab is for women, nonbinary, trans, and queer embodied movers. We will create an intentional container as a community for rigorous CI inquiry while incorporating a critique of the dance form and traditional CI spaces/culture.
