Queer & Trans Yoga: Focus on the Chakras (Series 2, 4 Weeks)

  • Sanctuary 150 Main Street Northampton, MA, 01060 United States (map)

with Sebastian Merrill & Fran Astino

This 4-week series is designed especially for members of the LGBTQIA+ community who are looking to connect with their bodies and their breath in a supportive, community-oriented environment. This space aims to create a container where queer and trans folks can cultivate joy, a deeper relationship with their bodies, and a sense of connectedness to their yoga practice. All bodies, sizes, and abilities are welcome and celebrated.

In this special series, we will dedicate each class to an exploration of the chakras, or primary energy centers in the body. Each chakra is related to a color, a sound, a part of the body, an element, and animals, and each has its own manifestation of balance or imbalance in the body, heart, and mind. By working through each chakra individually, we will seek to create balance on our mats and in our lives. This 4-week series in November is being offered in conjunction with an initial 4-week series in October that will introduce the chakras. We recommend signing up for both series!

Each class will feature time for community and connection and a chakra-inspired physical asana practice, ending with gentle restorative movement.

  • November 7 - Fran - Throat chakra

  • November 14 - Sebastian - Third eye chakra

  • November 21 - Fran - Crown chakra

  • December 5 - Sebastian - all 7 Chakra flow

Drop-ins are welcome!

About the teachers:

Sebastian has been teaching Queer & Trans Yoga with skill and care since 2018. His teaching is gender-affirming, body-positive, rooted in yoga philosophy, and trauma informed. In 2024 he received his Accessible Yoga Teacher certification as well as his 85 hour Prenatal Yoga certification.

Also an Accessible Yoga Teacher, Fran’s yoga teaching style is a testament to the belief that everyone deserves a space to explore and celebrate their unique identities. She finds it most important to foster an environment where yoga not only nurtures the body but aligns with principles of equity and justice. She has spent years studying to learn more about the needs of marginalized communities within the yoga space and has made it her mission to ensure that she creates as safe a space as possible for BIPOC, trans, and gender diverse folks.
